Well, as you all know, today is Monday and you are supposed to be reading a weekly update on Bands to Watch. Unfortunately, due to my lack of internet access at home, I have been unable to do the appropriate research to include one or two new bands this week for you to check out. Normally this probably wouldn't even warrant a post, but instead of providing some new music to explore, I thought I would pose a question.
To what extent are you reliant on the internet for your information?
In the days pre-1995 when the internet became the main source of people's information, what did people do to find new things? In music, I suppose people went out and saw new bands, or listened to independent radio stations. As these forms of expression and exposure get crushed into oblivion by the conglomerate large media companies, all we are left with is the internet. What happens when your computer goes down, or the connection to the local wi-fi network is fuzzy? Well this obviously. Meaningless posts that show just how much I rely on the internet to search out the latest musical adventures.
While you wait for next week's post. Go check out www.somafm.com and listen to indie-pop rocks. Soma is a great online radio station, and I'm sure some of their selections will inspire you.
Cheers,
S.P.
