So in lieu of a Band to Watch, as I've been way too busy to search out new bands in the last two weeks, I've decided to give a little insight into the music that was played at my wedding.
We decided to start with an REM classic "At my most beautiful", this was the MTV Unplugged version, and it suited the occasion perfectly. Michelle was really keen to have this playing when she walked down the aisle, and she was completely right in her suggestion. Michael Stipe and co. were right on target when they wrote this song, it is such a gorgeous piece of pop that it would be wrong not to have it in the wedding.
The next piece was used during the "signing the registry" portion of the ceremony. "Such Great Heights" as performed by Iron and Wine. This is such a great song. Originally written by the Postal Service, we chose this version because it's a bit slower, and the vocal melody is absolutely incredible. The sentiment of meeting your perfect partner and that it lifts you up to planes of unknown happiness is one that we can relate to. It helps that we both loved Garden State, which is where this cover version hails from.
The song that we played for our exit from the ceremony was a bit harder to decide on. Initially we had chosen "Shiny Happy People" by REM as it kind of encapsulates the concept of sharing this special moment with all the great people in our lives, but we were weary of having two REM songs in the ceremony. Then we heard "The Whole World" by The Dilletantes and felt that it gave us a song with great meaning but that also had that happy energetic feeling that we wanted to end the ceremony/kick off the party with.
So there you have it, the three songs that Michelle and I used to help us join together in marriage. Cool huh?

I really loved the wedding music. It was perfect.
And if you want to both discover a new band AND complete the list of music from the big day, your lovely bride and I listened to Camera Obscura's album "let's get out of this country" on our way to the ceremony. "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken" is one of my early faves...
