Over the course of the last couple of shows, I've been seriously questioning the use of an acoustic guitar for the type of music I play. While I fall into the singer-songwriter category of musicians, the acoustic guitar doesn't have the grit and glamour that I want to bring to my music.
The sound quality from my good, but budget, acoustic is too square and sterile for my liking. I also find it much harder to rock out on an acoustic guitar as the weight and dimensions make them unwieldy instruments perfect for playing seated, but not easy to toss about in a frenzy of musical delirium.
So after much consideration I am going to start using electric guitars at my gigs for the forseeable future. My trusty Seagull can hang up its strings and make way for my much beloved Dearmond Starfire.
Of course, this switch does mean some minor technical changes, as due to weight and such I won't be able to bring my amp, which is a crucial element to any electric guitarist's sound. Instead, my trusty internet Gods have led me to the Sansamp Blonde which emulates the sound of my Fender amp quite nicely, but weighs less than a 1/10th of what the amp weighs. Probably even less than 1/20th. Early experiments with the Sansamp have been productive, and I can't wait to try it onstage on the 24th.
Gotta love new gear!
