Last night I went and checked out Sara Kamin's sold out show at Hugh's Room. It was an excellent night of fantastic music. Jeffrey Straker opened off with a few great numbers, and it was instantly apparent why he's just been signed to Universal, and why the Regina symphony is doing a tour with him, dude's got talent. I could go on about his great piano skills and excellent command of the audience, but there's really no need to, go check him out for yourself.
Sara was the main event, and it was obvious that she had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand. Her angelic voice brought the house down on quite a few numbers, including the great 20 Yellow Roses, and The Sweetest Sound, two originals which appear on her latest CD "the Music in Me". I was truly surprised, in a fantastically good way when she brought out Ron Davis to perform "At Last". Ron is a stellar pianist, and Sara's voice coupled with his fingers did justice to Etta James in a way that very few can do. As a friend I was proud of her, and as a music lover, I was ecstatic.
Overall, Sara played an excellent set, one which I'm sure I will go check out many more times in the future. She plays around town often with her regular sidekick Oliver Pigott, and you should definitely check her out when you have the chance.

You rule. Thanks for being there! :)
My "regular sidekick" - love it.
